Check Your Eligibility

  1. You must have an arrest or conviction in San Francisco. You may also be eligible if your probation was transferred to San Francisco from another county and you finished probation in San Francisco. For some San Francisco residents, you may be able to petition for a Certificate of Rehabilitation or to terminate your registry requirement even if you do not have an arrest or conviction in San Francisco.

  2. You must meet the financial eligibility requirements for Public Defender services.

  3. All convictions that do not require sex offender registration are eligible for expungement thanks to a change in law that took effect in 2023. This includes felonies for which the person was sentenced to state prison, community supervision, parole, or probation.

    • Misdemeanors are also eligible for relief.
